Abstract

Report of the tenth mission of the National Force of the SUS (FN-SUS) in the care of the Yanomami Indigenous Peoples in Roraima (RR). The organization and activities begin to be articulated and carried out by the Federal Government in January 2023, the invitation takes place in May of the same year and my mission activities begin in June 2023. The objective was to provide care to the original Yanomami peoples in Roraima, since the environment of indigenous communities suffers from the violence and devastation caused by mining activities in the region. The team, made up of four physicians, seven nurses and a nursing technician, carried out a one-day training course in the Yanomami Indigenous Special Health District. The following day, assistance to the Yanomami began. In addition to unit care that demands more complex care, the removal of serious cases in distant villages, such as trauma, accidents, among others, could also be requested. During the report, some of the consultations and the involvement of the reporter and the team with the patients are presented. A healing and protection ritual practiced when there is a situation with imminent danger of death, the “Xabore”, is described. Finally, it presents reflections on the mission and questions about whether people from these original peoples were allowed to reach such a serious situation, since the quality of life and the cause belong to all of us.
